Firefox 3.x clear browser history properly

OK so Firefox has an infuriating bug / feature for all of you who surf grot in your spare time, in that when you clear you session history it doesn’t clear the address bar drop down. Here is a fix:

From what I can tell it is not a real bug but a regression that’s part of a new feature RichResults. The browsing history does not erase RichResults anymore. If you don’t want RichResults keep track of where you went, in Firefox you need to enter

about:config
and then scroll down to:
browser.urlbar.maxRichResults
and change the default. The default setting is 12 and if you
want nothing, you enter 0.

This probably should be changed to wishlist, namely that Clear Browsing history also clears RichResults.

I get it, but I don’t get it. Where can I find this RichResults setting? I can’t find it in the application or in the registry.

it’s where i say it is, the full name is:

    browser.urlbar.maxRichResults

use the filter option in the about:config screen to find it. These instructions are for the Mac version, I have no idea if the PC version is different.

Never mind. I found out how to edit the FireFox configuration. For anybody else who needs to know, just type the command line about:config into the browser address bar, and then follow the rest of Nathan’s instructions. When finished, simply close the browser window to save the change. It will take effect when you restart FireFox.
