A beautiful animation from 0 to 10 incorporating typography / bonsai / ikebana.

“As with other HULGER products, The PLUMEN low energy light bulb prototype is a reaction to the lack of real diversity, imagination and personality offered by the market today”…. I like this idea, and as Nick points out, most long life light bulbs are pig ugly, these however would look quite nice sans shade hanging from your ceilings.
I have to say though, PLUMEN is what I would term and ‘IKEA ready’ name, but perhaps that’s a good thing.

Moncler: When I was in Paris recently I spotted lots of people wearing Moncler puffa jackets, and upon investigation, they are the bestest puffa jackets i have ever seen (in particular thew Junya Watanabe sports jacket)
Colette: Also in Paris, my hotel was on the same block, Colette for a beautiful, very edited selection of designer gifts n stuff. A bit like Magma, but with expensive watches and designer clothes

Two bestest things I found this week on the Internets:
1. Digital Gravel: “Digital Gravel first hit the web on 1/19/1999, as the first site dedicated exclusively to selling gear from underground and independently owned brands.” … “Basically, we are still the same company we were on day one. We still believe that the best gear in this industry can only be found beneath surface..”

2. Collective Discharge: A set of really rather poptastic mixes for you to download. They remind me a lot eclectic method, uh, but without the video’s… obviously.
This one’s been on the side of the Truman Brewery for ages, but I thought I’d post it as it’s still great.

This beautiful orange Datsun belonged to Salvador Dali, or possibly his wife Gala, I’m not sure, it was parked outside their place Castell de Puboll. There was also a big old black Cadillac, but I know which one I’d have driven.

I know it’s an Alfa Romeo…. It’s silver and it’s well spacey and I want it. But what is it?

Sometime later…
I think it’s one of these: Alfa Romeo Montreal (1970-77) “Designed by Bertone, the car’s prototype was launched in 1967 at the Universal Exhibition in Montreal (hence the name) marking the Centenary of the Canadian Federation, as the model that was to be one step ahead of the technical progress of the time. In 1970 Alfa Romeo started mass production of the idea first seen in Montreal and presented it the same year at the Geneva Motor Show. The result was a car of high class and prestige, capable of competition-level performance, but with engine and mechanical characteristics such as to make it practical for everyday city driving. The 8-cylinder V engine was derived from the 33, with Spica mechanical injection, and could deliver 200 bhp, reaching a top speed of over 220 Km/hr. The Montreal’s passenger cabin was refined and elegant, fitted with functional seats, controls within easy reach, and anti-glare instrumentation. The original body was characterised by convex aerodynamic lines, with a flat bonnet and front lights framed by grills, a cut-off tail and bumpers moulded into the line of the body. Performance, safety and comfort were the qualities making the Montreal one of the most highly appreciated luxury sports cars.”
Ok so this is a blatant plug for a friend, but go and check out the beautiful work of Petra and Nicole over at Kapitza.com, especially the fonts, they’re lush.

This is a photo of The Library in Koh Samui, or rather it’s bookshop / media store (you can’t see the bank of iMacs and iPod accessories just off the photo to the right). It’s a nice place, really, though in an utterly bizarre location in the middle of Chaweng. But when I went there for dinner it was utterly empty. I couldn’t help but think that the type of clientele it is hoping to attract i.e. ‘designer’ types, i.e. me, that last thing they / I want is a bloody busmans holiday. Honestly guys, your hotel is like a bloody Apple store, enough!
