Found a very quick way to structure a presentation last night. Scribble all your notes on a piece of paper, then just draw lines around the bits that contribute to a single slide. Obvious, but never done it before and it worked well, so will do it again. That is all.

This is probably really old, but did you know that adding &fmt=18 onto the end of a YouTube url improves the quality of the video?
First watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVhVClFMg6Y
Then behold: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVhVClFMg6Y&fmt=18
Not a gigantic difference, but better never the less.
Bored at work? Make siege weapons and stuff.

“As with other HULGER products, The PLUMEN low energy light bulb prototype is a reaction to the lack of real diversity, imagination and personality offered by the market today”…. I like this idea, and as Nick points out, most long life light bulbs are pig ugly, these however would look quite nice sans shade hanging from your ceilings.
I have to say though, PLUMEN is what I would term and ‘IKEA ready’ name, but perhaps that’s a good thing.

Having said that WriteRoom was really good at stopping me from procrastinating while I’m writing it’s not being of any bloody use to me today. I have a pitch on Monday afternoon, I have a shit load of work to get done for it although my bit isn’t even going to get presented, it’s a handout, and I’m spending my Saturday afternoon trying to do PowerPoint. I need a full screen version of powerpoint or for the internet to be switched off or something, or actually just a kick up the arse. Todays procrastination time: 1 hour and 28 minutes.
Later: General procrastination last week meant having to work Saturday, Sunday evening and mean getting up at 6am on Monday to finish up. Sigh.
Another nice piece of integration with Google. GooSync is basicaly a synchronisation script for your phone that allows it to sync to Google Calendars.
Only issue I had getting it to work was that the free version only sync’s your first GCal if you have more than one, and my first one was epmty. Fix, open the Gcal feed you want to appear on your phone into iCal, then export form iCal as an ICS file then upload into the first GCal…. convoluted but works a treat.
This was tested this on a Sony Ericsson K800i on Vodafone UK via 3G and GPRS, works with no problems.
So I’m a terrible procrastinator, it can take me ages to get stuff done sometimes, well when I’m using a puter cos the internet keeps distracting me, anyway this little app for OS X is great. It’s a basic text editor / word processor which is nothing new, but the nice thing is that when you maximize the app it goes full screen and hides everything, and with the default colours, lime green on black, it makes me feel like I’m back on a Commodore PET and eleven years old.
WriteRoom | Hog Bay Software “For Mac users who enjoy the simplicity of a typewriter, but live in the digital world. WriteRoom is a full screen, distraction free, writing environment. Unlike standard word processors that focus on features, WriteRoom is just about you and your text. Requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.”
OK so I’ve been experiencing difficulties with this blog going down. By a process of deduction i worked out that the SQL DB was messing things up, in particular the table wp_postmeta. This is a fix I worked out after failing other online how to’s. The db is restored here table by table as trying to do a buik upload fail time after time.
1. Search your hard drive for the SQL backup that you hope you did recently.
2. Breath a sigh of relief when you find it.
3. Delete your WP install off the server after having backed up images etc etc
4. Resinstall WP.
5. Open the SQL file you backed up into a nice test editor i.e. one that will wrap and colour etc so you can read it clearly. All the tables will be nicely commented to its easy to work out what’s what.
6. Log into phpMyAdmin
7. Select the first table to update ie that one that comes first in the SQL file (the order will match).
8. Copy n paste the contents of the SQL file for the relevant table into the querry box in phpMyAdmin. Hit run or ok… If all go’s well it will tell you. I’f it doesn’t go well this how to will be of now use to you so quit here and start again.
9. Repeat for each table except the table called wp_(optionalprfixforyourblog)postmeta as this is the one that is fucking things up. You may also not want to update the table called wp_(optionalprfixforyourblog)options for obviouis reasons as you have just done a fresh install.
NOTE: If you update the table wp_(optionalprfixforyourblog)users this will change the password to the old one. If you have forgotten it don’t worry, go to log in and follow the mail me my password option and you can get it back.
That is all.

Clever, though ever so slightly scary.
